Slice of 408: Artist Gone Amuck
Artist gone amuck, or how I managed to get my lazy ass off one chair into another.
Artist gone amuck… well, not really. It’s more like artist gone bat-crazy because of OS 10.11 AKA El Capitan. Here’s what happened.
I’ve been holding off upgrading my machine from Mavericks (10.9.5) to the latest one called El Capitan (10.11) because I never needed to. That is until I saw it in action. Finally, after the New Year (January 2, to be exact) I took the plunge and updated. Along with that, I also upgraded my very old GF 210 card to a somewhat better GTX 750 Ti and bought an SSD to boot faster from.
After that update, I took a week off from drawing to recharge my batteries, so to speak.
When I got back, I pretty much migrated all my apps and settings from the old drive to the new. This is where I went amuck. Corel Painter 12, the program I use to pretty much layout, sketch and ink my work, is broken. The brush strokes (any brush type I use) lags like a snail. Found out it’s an incompatibility issue between Painter and El Capitan. Tried upgrading to a new version, but the problem crossed versions.
After trying pretty much everything I can google, I ended up disabling a feature I soo love with Painter. I had to re-calibrate my brushes anew, which meant a lot of sketching, adjusting, sketching again, and adjusting again etc. to get my pens and brushes to what I was used to.
So, if you see some slight difference from the line work on this strip, I’m still doing tweaks.
tl:dr: Machine fucked up. Took me a while to get back to norm. Thus, no strip until now. The end.
P.S. This strip was inspired by the classic Looney Tunes cartoon titled “Duck Amuck“.
Well, I thought it was hilarious, and I caught the reference to the old Duck Amuck cartoon immediately..
Great punchline by the way. This comic should be a lot more popular.
Thank you.
